The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is an agreement between an NLI Member Institution and the prospective student athlete that is signed by the athlete on signing day. The agreement states that the NLI institution will provide an athletic scholarship or aid for one academic year ( 2 semesters or 3 quarters), and that the athlete agrees to attend for the same period. The Signing Day is a big day for the student athlete, and most schools have an event planned around the day where all their student athletes participate.
The NLI Program is a voluntary program for both institutions and athletes. Once the student athlete signs the Letter of Intent on signing day, the student can no longer receive contact or calls from recruiting coaches.
