There are 347 DI Schools across 49 different states. DI colleges range from smaller private schools to the largest universities in the US. The scholarship opportunities vary depending on the sport and the school. If you play football, men’s or women’s basketball or women’s volleyball, tennis or gymnastics all of these scholarships are full-rides. The rest of the sports are generally partial scholarships, but you can still get a full scholarship if the fit is right.
How Competitive Are Division I Colleges
DI universities are where the best high school and prep athletes from around the world go to play and compete. NCAA DI programs generate millions of dollars in revenue each year and the pressure to perform and win, impacts all of the decisions made regarding coaches, athletes and scholarships. Many athletes and families feel that DI programs are run too much like a business and choose to play at a division level where expectations on academics and athletics are more balanced.
Creating Your List of DI Schools
You might have a list of a couple DI Colleges in mind where you would like to go, but if you are just starting out you need to begin your search with more schools. When beginning your search for Universities, you want to start with a minimum of 10 DI schools. Because the recruiting process is so competitive at this level, chances are the majority of schools you contact will not be the right fit. One of the best ways to find more schools to add to your list is look within the same conference or within the same region as schools you are already considering.
Once you have a list of DI universities your work is just beginning to gather the email and phone number for every coach and writing them personal emails. Of course you can do this on your own by visiting the school website and tracking down the coaches contact information, but our online profiles make it easy. Our free online profiles allow you to not only get a list of DI colleges, but you get the coaches contact info, can save schools to your favorites list and have an online profile to share all of the information coaches need to know about you in one place.
